Portland Head Light - Fort Williams

We spent a couple hours at Fort Williams on Cape Elizabeth Friday touring the grounds surrounding Portland Head Light.  I have been coming to Maine for about 60 years and had never been there - it is a well maintained very photogenic place - a good place to try out my new camera.   The first photo is of the remains of the Goddard Mansion (see second pic for description -click on pics to enlarge).

These next two pictures were taken with a 300mm lens from about 1/3 of a mile away.

Songo River/Sebago Lake Hike

We went for a 5 mile hike today on the Songo Wilderness Trail at Sebago Lake State Park.  The trail is mostly wooded but passes by the Songo River and Sebago Lake.  No photos of the river as my camera battery died and I forgot to bring a spare (didn't even think about using Donna's cell phone until right at the end when we took a picture of the beaver lodge).

Short Hike & Antique Cars

We climbed Bald Pate Mountain in Bridgeton, ME today. This was a relatively short hike of about 4 miles but it was very strenuous.  Moderate constant incline going up and the trail down was hang on to the trees steep and more strenuous than the climb up.

On the way back we saw this interesting Model A tracked vehicle in a field.

Not sure what this is - it was in the same field as the Model A.

Two Hikes Today

We took a couple of hikes today, not counting the morning and evening walks with Darby to do his business.

The first was to Jugtown Forest which was a nice easy hike of about five miles - nothing too remarkable - mostly woodlands - didn't take any other pictures.

On the way back we stopped in Naples and walked the boardwalk and the causeway.  They have an interesting sternwheeler paddleboat, The Songo River Queen II, that sails on Long Lake and the Songo River which connects with the larger Sebago Lake through a lock system.

We Were Going To Go To Paris But Decided On Naples

Naples, Maine it is.  We were looking at campgrounds in Paris, ME  and Poland, ME but ultimately decided on Naples.  We are staying at Loon's Haven Family Campground in Naples, ME and we couldn't be more pleased with it.

It has nice spacious sites, two beaches, full hookups and great internet - we can stream Netflix with no problem.  Our site overlooks the beach and the pond.
